Guest Blog: Katy Tackles Life!

Hi guys!

I'm Katy from Katy Tackles Life, and I have known Lance for years! We're actually co-godparents of the most precious child on the universe. [Though she obviously loves me more. Obviously.]

[Yes. We are both biting her. We're teaching her about zombies. Duh.]

But, anyways. Back on topic. Lance loves to cook. I love to eat Lance's food. I also love to pretend to help while stalking perusing Facebook and blogging. And quite possibly doing a bit of 'impromptu dance party' -ing. You know. The usual.

Oh, were you here about the food?

Before I get into that, let me tell you, there are SOME people in the world who like to have fun. SOME people who like to keep things, even cooking dinner, interesting. SOME people don't mind dressing in costume [especially white spandex] and throwing caution to the wind by chopping turnips wearing said spandex. That's right. SOME OF US.

I am so NOT that person.

Nope, that would be Mr. Lance ova' there. Wanna see a picture? Probably not. But I'm gonna show you anyways. I'll show you a few, actually.

That. Just. Happened.

Halloween came early in our house. No regrets, mmmkay.

Now, for dinner Lance we made:

AKA: Heaven in my mouth. I ate all of mine and stole about 90% of my god-daughters.

Hey, I'm bigger than her. What can I say.

But seriously, we all pretty much inhaled it, it was so delicious. The only person who didn't think so was Lance. And he's super emo about his own cooking. We just ignore him.

...... Though we usually ignore him anyways. <3 Just kidding. We heart him pretty hardcore around here. Oh, and just so Laura doesn't feel left out, she was there in all of her Asian adorable-ness. We even played Monopoly!

Ok, I'm going to hop on over to my blog again! It was nice visiting! Bye!

Fun with Sage

WHAT UP!

I'm blurry cause I'm dancing.
This entry is on our last dinner at my place which was somewhere around two weeks ago.
Why? Because:
1.       It’s my turn
2.       Nubs and I are on a budget which means we (we as in Lance) will be cooking more
3.       Homemade = cheap
4.       NUBS CAN COOK.
Here we go…
Ingredients for a fantastic dinner with amazing friends
·         ½ cup Lance Larson
·         ¾ table spoon Laura Lee
·         A bunch of sage
·         1 iPhone full of 90’s dance music
·         High Ten
1st step: Call Laura randomly and freak out about an awesome idea about dinner. Let it marinate for couple weeks, do some tweaking where needed.
2nd step: Don’t forget the pork chops
3rd step: Dance in the tiny kitchen with filo dough and boil simple sugar (do not stir! The candy will crystalize!)
4th step: SHOTS!
Viola! Dinner is severed…
Starting with fantastic chicken pepper sage mixture wrapped in filo served with a savory butter sauce.

I want more now. Please.
Main course: Extremely tender and juicy grilled pork chops. Sorry mom, these are the best pork chops I have ever eaten. Fried gnocchi. No scales or measuring cups were used in the making of these perfect little potato pillows. I know, I am an eye witness. And swiss chard. Thank you, Lance for allowing me to try swiss chard. I never thought leafy greens would be so good. So, so good.

Gnocchi. So fun. Gnocchi.

What survived the horrific front porch/attempted runaway dog incident was still a light, creative and delicious dessert. Honey infused vanilla ice cream with a fun candied sage on top.

Thank you for an amazing dinner Lance. I was so happy to have some of my closest friends over to enjoy a great meal.

Blue Bamboo

Hey guys it is Nubs here to tell you about Blue Bamboo!
I saw something on the internet about this place. How it was a fusion of Southern and Asian cooking! I was pretty excited to try it! Seriously Southern and Asian better shut your mouth I'm down like like an elevator from the top floor!

We got there around 7ish it wasn't very busy but it looked really nice inside.
Definitelly loved our server she was awesome very knowledgeable and helpful +1 for her =)
First we ordered drinks I got a Sierra Nevada pale ale easily one of my goto favs! Poor Laura didnt have her I.D. /fail =P she got a delicious pomegranate iced tea(it was way awesome the use iced tea ice cubes I know epic right)
SHUT YO MOUTH!

Then it was time for apps for me it BBQ Duck Wonton Crisps and Laura had Soft Shell Crab! both very tastey
Then it was time to dinner I was really indecisive lol totally out of character right??(ok maybe not quit judging me), I finally decided to have 1/2 Canton Roast Duck, and Laura had Katsu Vietnamese Tra Fish. Both were very good. also the salad with my duck was awesome!
All in all a good experience great service we even met the chef who seemed to  come to ever table very personable and nice. We didn't plan on dessert but the chef sent us dessert any way. I don't remember what the cake was but it was good we also had lychee sorbet and a tiramisu all tasty!!
We also discovered that the chef  had a cookbook  pretty neat!
o yea the thing above is the dessert menu !

India's Restaurant

Hello there! Laura Lee here.
My apologies to our many many avid R&N blog readers. I have been slacking on my pimping. Nub’s and I took a trip to India’s Restaurant the week before last.  I know. My bad. I have a million excuses, but I’ll spare you and get on with it…

We were allured there by a one Chef Kenny Gilbert facebook post. Yes, the one belonging to the last blog, Nippers. It was interesting. That seemed to be the key word all night interesting.
We started off with awesome choice of Indian lager, Kingfisher. ‘Twas refreshing.

They brought this crispy… tortilla like crispy stuff. A little hesitant I let Mr. Larson take the lead. If you could refer to the picture below… the red stuff – amazing, the darker stuff – good, sweet, the green stuff – not my cup of tea. Don’t eat the green stuff. Don’t. I’m hating on the green stuff. For real.

Being the hungry indecisive ones we are we started with a veggie/meat fried mixed appetizer.  Yes, interesting AND fun.  You should play this game. Guess what’s in my mouth.  I recall what we deemed Indian boneless buffalo wings, and the cauliflower, the best.  It really was. Fried cauliflower is the shit!

My entrĂ©e was the chicken bhoona. Wussy mild.  I was scurred. The chicken bhoona pictured below chicken cooked with bell peppers, tomatoes, and fried onions.

Brave Lance, ordered medium lamb vindaloo, with potatoes in curry sauce. We played another guessing game with the rice. Nutmeg? Cinnamon?

Can't forget the naan. Lovely light flat bread. So yummy. So yummy. Dippy dip.

This time we went with boxes instead of dessert. Happy and full, we made our way to Cliff’s for a heated game of shuffle board. I won. As usual. Bawhahahahahaha!

Nippers Beach Grille

Hey guys its nubs here to tell you about Nippers Beach Grille!
Worth the wait I think so, (The server was  very slow getting to us but after we ordered everything went smoothly. Enough about that.)

Raura and I started our dinner off right with Sweetwater 420, such a good beer imo. Then we ordered our apps I had yucca steak fries with a mango and jalapeno jam(very nommy) and miss Raura Ree could not resist ordering guacamole also pretty delicious.
I know your jealous I would be too if I were you XD!
Then it was time for more beer and we were off to venture in to entrees. I went for a Cinnamon Coffee Rubbed Pork Tenderloin with creamy grits and a lemon oregano vinagrette. I wasn't sure about citrus with my grits but with the pork the flavors really built in my mouth and I truely enjoyed it good work kitchen folks

Raura went with crabcake with nippers aoili very good also I enjoyed that it had like no fillers just crab!

Oh yea I really liked the view from our table pretty neat also we played a fun game of who owns what boat =) yea we are kinda silly like that!
we ordered dessert was also good very sweet though it was guava duff cake with guava sorbet and a mango salad sorry i forgot  to take picture  I know blog fail =P

Well thats that I hope you enjoyed reading. I know we enjoyed eating and writing about it.

oh  and here are other photos from dinner beer and excited raura

Thanks again for reading,
 Nubs

Bleuets Partout

Bonjour! C'est moi, Laura Lee.

It looks like I’m next in line, so I get the honor of blogging about the blueberry extravaganza at Mom Wendy’s house (the procreator of our very own Lance Nubs Larson). Hourra!
Nubs went on a blueberry tangent and invited some pretty rad peoples to join the feast…
Including myself

 Hi! That's me!

Mikey!

Gen, Jen, or Jenn. Either way, she's awesome!
Lance started us with a crispy bruschetta with roasted red peppers in balsamic and thyme topped with a blueberry balsamic reduction. Some had goat cheese sprinkled others (me) opted out. Yeah, I'm one of those people.
For the main course we had pan seared pork medallions topped with a blueberry demi along with smoked corn and potato hash and wilted spinach.
Plating...

Looks delicious? Yes. Yes it was. No salt needed ;).

Dessert was a keylime pie topped with... you guessed it! BLUEBERRIES!

I am not a keylime pie fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Dispite its crust, uh, retardation, it was magnifique!

See these two feuding over the prettier crust?
